william hundley and random stuff

"Visions from his sickness made him also helpless as a teacher. All he had to give was being weak and rage about the kings and elders and the animals in the underworld that crowded sleep, about the feathers that grew from his arms in the house of dust whose occupants sat in the dark devoid of light with clay as food, the fluttering of wings as substitutes for life." - Gilgamesh, as told by Herbert Mason

will be at the texas 2007 biennial - http://www.texasbiennial.com/
one of his photos:

i entered this painting to austin's art in public places and it was picked to hang in council member jennifer kim's office. so i got my unusual party as predicted by buffet palace's fortune... went to a lunar new year party at her office (and ate dim sum... mmmmmm).

a couple of weeks ago if you'd handed me a little photo of my feet sticking out of a dragon's maw and said 'this is what you look like right now', i wouldn't have been a bit surprised. the dragon being my wonderful job which i am forever grateful for. gah.

no but really. i think i had to RElearn that i can't completely ignore all of my creative(?) needs and be the robot i want to be for work. i get impatient. and pissy. and think GIGANTIC thoughts about things that are just... well... things i won't even remember a year from now because they're just part of the static at work.

anyway, i nearly exploded then i chilled out, and let myself do the things i really wanted to do. i read gilgamesh, which wasn't exactly uplifting, but way more beautiful than i expected. and did some okay drawings. and i stuck my fingers in dirt and planted all sorts of flowers in the yard and made nice smelling baths and sat in the tub reading, surrounded by candles, and felt all witchy. whee.

okay drawings and my amaryllis:

and (somewhat miraculously) i managed to enter 2 pieces to austin's art in public places and had a painting selected, which was a nice surprise when i was notified since i'd forgotten i'd entered and was in the middle of some insanity. admittedly overall i found the city hall exhibit a wee bit disappointing and wish i'd entered the 2007 biennial instead, which looks to be way more interesting. but AH WELL... maybe next year when i'm wizened, and have better work.

and bill hundley (above) was chosen for the biennial and he works in the same building i do and seems to have similar tastes, which is sort of cool serendipity even though i've only ever seen him about 2 times after i first met him. and there's really no other way to describe him other than 'darling' (sorry bill if you read this, i mean that in the nicest i-don't-know-you-but-think-you're-sweet way possible). and for some reason he makes me feel old as dirt, even though i think he's also in his 30s. WHATEVER! it's good stuff. he has something. and big t and i are going to the opening next week.

rome is wonderful marvelous and we're loving every sunday night for it. my heart is still with anthony, no matter how brutish he is. i hope hbo decides to do more historical dramas. i'd love to see one on the russian royalty. any of em. and battlestar is okay, though i'm pretty weary of the love square and want the cylons and crazy ass balthar back in the spotlight.

Congratulations on having your painting chosen for the Art in Public Places exhibit!

I like the William Hundley photo too.

Yeah, I love Rome, and wish they weren't going to stop the series after this season. :( If only history were presented this way in school, it would have been so much more fascinating for the students!
thank you!

and yeah no kidding!... what's amazing is that the general historical stuff is pretty accurate in rome (major events, major characters - except pullo and vorenus of course). i would love to see this sort of thing on the founding fathers, or russian royalty like catherine the great, or french history or even chinese history which is also cool. well we actually cooked a big lasagna and bought a nice bottle of wine just for the 'servilia goes totally batshit crazy' episode tonight. i'm feeling a little sorry for her - despite all her treachery...

hope you enjoy!
I think this week there's no episode, for some reason (darn). Next week is a new episode though, according to our TV schedule. I've always felt Servilia's actions were triggered by Atia's initial treachery. I mean, Atia started it, lol! Most viewers seem to think that Servilia is the baddie, but I see Atia as the most evil woman between the two of them.

Most of what I know about history is based on historical fiction novels and movies, and on my art history classes from college. ^__^
